Circuit Training: Why Wait Until The New Year

4:17:00 PM Jem Lawren 0 Comments

As Thanksgiving is approaching and Christmas is just around the corner, our eating habits or should I say our bodies might take a huge hit with all the excessive calories one might consume during these time.  A lot of people gain most of their weight during the holidays than any other time in the year and loosing that added weight might be the most difficult.  So I say, instead of waiting until January to make fitness a new year’s resolution…start now so you’re able to somewhat combat those extra calories.
One type of workout routine that can give you the most benefit is circuit training. Circuit training can allow you to:
  1. Achieve maximum results in a small amount of time
  2. Burn more fat than most traditional workout regimens
  3. Is a combination of cardio and strength training in one workout
  4. Targets various muscle groups instead of just focusing on one muscle at a time
  5.  Helps by improving one’s endurance

Circuit training I feel is one of the best workout regimens for those who don’t have a lot of time to spend in the gym. It’s also great for those who may feel a bit self conscience about going to the gym because you can do these exercises right in the comfort of your home.  The number of exercises, variety of exercises, intensity level, and speed are very important when performing circuit training.
The types of exercises that might be in a circuit are:
  • Crunches
  •  Burpees
  • Alternating lunges
  • Mountain climbing
  • Push-ups
  • Squats
  • Squat jumps
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Dips
  • Planks

If you’re not sure on how to start the process of living and achieving a healthily lifestyle through diet and exercise...don’t worry. There are tons of fitness blogs and YouTube fitness guru’s out there…just choose one! You might be surprise that you and your fitness inspiration may share other things in common.

Home Decor Woes

In the past six months, a couple of my friends has either moved into a new apartment or purchased a new home. One of their main issue after settling in...is decorating.

Decorating a house or an apartment can be a hassle. Issues that can arise are:

1. Having too little space or having  too much space
2. Angle of the furniture and the placement
3. Too many mismatch furniture pieces
4. The color of the room. Maybe a bit too dark
5. Budget. The finances maybe too small for your big idea.
6. An idea. Not having a single clue where to start

But not to worry!  There are several websites out there that may help those who are experiencing one or all of the six problems listed above.  These websites are great references tools whether you have a small or large space. My top seven go-to home and apartment decorating websites are:

1. Houzz
2. Apartment Therapy
3. My Home Ideas
4. The Nest
5. DIY Network
6. ELLE Decor
7. Freshome

So tell us... what's your favorite website for home decorating ideas?

Introduce yourself!
My name is Stephanie Heyden, I’m from Anaheim, California. By day I am a Marketing Coordinator for a non-profit organization, by night, a Fashion blogger.

How would you describe your sense of style?
My style is a huge mix of things so aside from it being eclectic I also stick with classic pieces with a hint of grunge.

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
Bloggers, thrift stores, lookbooks, magazines and certain movies. You can get a ton of fashion inspiration from period pieces!

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
Zara lace up waxed denim jeans, white tee, H&M leather jacket, black boots.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
My favorite pieces have and will always be my leather jacket, black boots, and my rose gold watch. These are such classic pieces that can be dressed up and down and always help me leave the house feeling put together.

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
I love finding new stores to shop in and explore so it’s hard to just pick a few.
For shoes, accessories and clothing I usually gravitate towards Zara, H&M, Mango, Nasty Gal, Reformation, and Revolve Clothing. All these sites have such a wide range of items which really helps me transition from a day at the office to Disneyland on the weekends.

Make a Statement Wednesdays: Accessorizing More With Jewelry These Winter Months

8:22:00 AM Jem Lawren 0 Comments

As the winter is upon us, the addition of layers is quite essential. Sometimes is can become a bit difficult to accessorize with all that extra bulk. It seems as though the only accessory one can wear during these cold months…is a scarf. As much as I love scarves (which I have a ton of), it can get a bit boring.

Now as most of you know…I am a huge fan of statement jewelry. I can’t get enough of them! The indulgence almost becomes a sin. With that being said….why not pair your favorite statement piece with a cardigan, turtleneck or solid/striped sweater? I say skip that scarf every couple of days for a beautiful statement necklace.

Down below you can checks out some of my favorite pieces I like to wear with my solid color sweaters.

Fashion & Style: Rachel

9:58:00 AM Jem Lawren 0 Comments

Introduce yourself!
My name is Rachel Burke and I live in Jacksonville, FL. I just graduated from Florida State University and now I'm spending my time job hunting, being bff with my parents, and wishing I was still in college. Just kidding, (kind of) my day will come!

How would you describe your sense of style?
My sense of style is all over the place. One day I will be dressed very Boho with a head scarf, maxi, and bracelets up both of my arms, and the next day  I will be super prep with a button up, sweater, and riding boots. I wear what I want to that day and don't really think about consistency!

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
My inspiration for each outfit comes from everywhere and everything! I've always had a mind where I see a shirt or a piece of jewelry and I know the exact outfit I want to wear with it. So, I think it's a collection of what I see everyday jumbled together in my mind.

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
At this moment in time I'm really into patterned pants so my go to outfit is a pair of patterned pants with a simple top and lots of fun jewelry. I like how you can dress them up or down and they will always stand out!

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
My 3 favorite items in my closet:
1. My rainboots. I will take any spec of cloud in the sky as an opportunity for rainboots.
2. My great grandmother's vintage floral dresses. Enough said.
3. My Badgley Mischka watch. It is different than any watch I have ever seen its feminine and looks like a vintage bracelet.

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
I like to shop wherever there is a good deal! There's nothing I love more than finding something that looks high end for a steal!
