Fashion & Style: Lauren

4:15:00 PM Jem Lawren 1 Comments

Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Lauren and I am the creator of the blog and YouTube channel, A Lovely Side Project, which focuses on my two passions in life, fashion and nutrition.
How would you describe your sense of style?
I have fashion A.D.D; my style varies from bohemian to edgy to preppy to ridiculously girly. It depends on how I feel, what I’m doing, and where I am going. One theme that is constant is comfort (minus my shoes). Usually, I end up preppy for work and bohemian to edgy for weekend casual. Nighttime is a free-for-all. I almost always go with my first instinct (even if I am getting a side eye from my boyfriend).

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
Inspiration is something that I feel very strongly about. I have the magazine clippings to prove it! I have been ripping out fashion pictures since I was in high school and now have very large binders (divided by season) that house my inspiration pics. I find inspiration not only in print magazines, but also from street style pics, other bloggers, movies and television (SATC, Gossip Girl), and my friends!
What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
All black everything- motorcycle boots, skinnies, and a leather moto jacket. A pop of color usually comes in the form of a hat (or beanie) on my head.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
My black moto jacket (which I am constantly reaching for), a perfectly pink Diane Von Furstenberg dress I scored at a Neiman Marcus Last Call a few months ago (I have yet to photograph it for the blog, but I do have a picture of it on my Instagram account, linked below), and a white/purple/blue dip dye Henri Bendel tote I purchased over the summer.

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
I love Nordstrom, Shopbop, Zara, Madewell, J.Crew, and Lord & Taylor (I find great deals at L&T). I am a definite bargain hunter, but quality has become very important to me. I am starting to realize that splurging on something that you will wear 100 times might be a better way to go than wasting $20 on something you only wear once.

What fashion or styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense of style?
Start with inspiration. Visit fashion blogs (peruse them on Bloglovin’), look at magazines, visit entertainment websites to check out celebrity style. Figure out a few people whose style you can’t get enough of and who have a similar body shape to yours. Start making a list of items that you would like to add to your wardrobe. Do you love Jessica Alba’s high-waisted bell bottom/fedora look? Do you own high-waisted bell bottoms? Do you own a fedora? Keep this fashion wish list in your purse at all times so you can glance at it when you find yourself shopping.

Is there a blog/webpage or Youtube channel where we can find you?

Fashion & Style: Stephanie

Introduce yourself!
I’m Stephanie Byrd, freelance wardrobe and hair stylist from Oakland, California.

How would you describe your sense of style?
I would describe my personal style as very eclectic. I do not limit myself to one look or a certain style of dress. One of my favorite looks to portray is an edgy look; layers, camouflage, black leather, and a red lip to make it feminine and sexy. I love a good hipster look, business casual, vintage inspired, and a super trendy look where I can express my creativity the most. But since I work in an environment where I cannot dress exactly how I want all of the time, I try to keep it quite simple.

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
Sometimes I get my inspiration from my favorite fashion magazines such as Bazaar and InStyle, iconic celebrities, art, and just life.

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
When I need to get ready in a hurry, my “go-to” outfit is and “all black” outfit. Super chic, either consisting of leather, high waist pants, chiffon, black pumps, gold accessories, and a matte red lip. There’s something about red lips that make you feel like you have all the confidence in the world!

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
Three favorite things in my closet are my olive and gold jacquard blazer from H&M, black leather circle skirt, and Reed Krakoff black leather and mesh booties.

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
Some of my favorite shops and websites are Zara, H&M, asos.com, hautelook.com, nastygal.com, and materialaddict.com

What fashion or styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense of style?
When clients, friends, or peers ask me for styling tips and advice I tell them we need to determine their own personal style first, what do they feel most comfortable in, and how do they want to feel and look.  I tell them to choose a couple of current trends from a known fashion magazine and I will help them recreate these looks with keeping their personal style in mind.
A few small tips; in fashion today, one does not have to match, don’t be afraid to mix prints especially if the prints are of a similar color story, and when you’re not so sure, keep it simple and accessorize. I also tell my clients to make sure that they are confident about their outfit before he/she leaves their house or he/she will have an uneasy feeling all day. Lol! Its true. Everyone should take inspiration from all around them but find ways to make it their own.

Fashion & Style: Abigail

Introduce yourself!
Hi my name is Abigail Sterling and I am the creator of the fashion and style blog 'The Fabulous Life of a Natural Disaster"

How would you describe your sense of style?
I would say my style is very eclectic - I truly dress depending on my mood each day! Some days I'll feel more feminine, some days I'll feel more sporty or preppy…. I never know the day before!

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
I get a lot of inspiration from magazines, movies and of course blogs! My style icons range from Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to more modern women like Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, Kate Hudson, Ashley Olsen and my all time favorite - Carrie Bradshaw!

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
When I need to get ready in a hurry, I usually put on skinny jeans or black leggings, a Hanes tank top, a neutral color slouchy knit sweater and some loafers. I'll throw on some gold necklaces, some sunglasses and I'm good to go!

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
Hmm, that’s a tough one - I don't like to play favorites! If I had to pick, I would have to say a vintage dress that has sequins in the shape of constellations all over it, a pair of vintage Ferragamo heels that my grandmother passed on to me and a simple faux fur vest that I found at Marshalls and wear with everything….

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
I'm really into online shopping right now. I love Zara, ASOS, H&M and Forever 21 for great deals. I'm also finding a lot of fabulous items on Amazon! When I go into stores I absolutely love to vintage and consignment shop - it's one of my favorite things to do!

What fashion or styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense of style?
Fashion and style is so personal and for me it comes down to what I feel comfortable in, what looks good, fits well and what inspires me. I would start building collages either online or in a sketch book of people, outfits and things you like. That will give you a great idea of colors and silhouettes you are drawn to and relate to. Then it's all about translating it to yourself. Figure out what kind of body type you have - what you want to accentuate and hide. Then find a few key pieces for your wardrobe that you feel really good in - it can be as simple as a classic handbag, a pretty pair of heels or the perfect shade of lipstick. Confidence is key - and a great smile always helps!

Mascara and Lashes: Tips to achieve a fuller and longer look

1:59:00 PM Jem Lawren 0 Comments

I'm a girl that loves to make my eyes POP when I'm wearing makeup. When it comes to my lashes... my main issue is not the thickness, but more so the length. So for me, I'm more concerned with achieving a look where my lashes appears longer. Below are a few tips on what I do to make my lashes look super thick and longer.

For fuller a longer lashes:
1. Eyelash curler- Start curling at the base of the lashes and move you way up to the ends.
2. Apply translucent powder-  This will aid in making the lashes look fuller and longer
3. Use a clear primer- It separates and coats the lashes to help reduce the chances of clumping
4. Apply two coats of mascara- Mix and match your mascara. You can apply one coat of lengthening          mascara and a second coat of thickening mascara.
5. Mascara on the underside-Apply mascara on the underline makes your lashes appears longer and fuller.
6. Wiggle your mascara wand- When applying mascara, you want to wiggle your wand in a zig-zag motion    starting at the base. Continue this motion to the ends of your lashes.
7. Wait 6-8 seconds before blinking to prevent dot on the lower lash line.

Check out a some of my favs-
