Fashion & Style: Lauren
Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Lauren and I am the creator of the blog and YouTube
channel, A Lovely Side Project, which focuses on my two passions in life,
fashion and nutrition.
How would you
describe your sense of style?
I have fashion A.D.D; my style varies from bohemian
to edgy to preppy to ridiculously girly. It depends on how I feel, what I’m
doing, and where I am going. One theme that is constant is comfort (minus my
shoes). Usually, I end up preppy for work and bohemian to edgy for weekend
casual. Nighttime is a free-for-all. I almost always go with my first instinct
(even if I am getting a side eye from my boyfriend).
Where do you get your
inspiration for each look?
Inspiration is something that I feel very strongly
about. I have the magazine clippings to prove it! I have been ripping out fashion
pictures since I was in high school and now have very large binders (divided by
season) that house my inspiration pics. I find inspiration not only in print
magazines, but also from street style pics, other bloggers, movies and television
(SATC, Gossip Girl), and my friends!
What’s your ‘Go-To’
outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
All black everything- motorcycle boots, skinnies,
and a leather moto jacket. A pop of color usually comes in the form of a hat
(or beanie) on my head.
What are the three
favorite things in your closet?
My black moto jacket (which I am constantly reaching
for), a perfectly pink Diane Von Furstenberg dress I scored at a Neiman Marcus
Last Call a few months ago (I have yet to photograph it for the blog, but I do
have a picture of it on my Instagram account, linked below), and a
white/purple/blue dip dye Henri Bendel tote I purchased over the summer.
What are some of your
favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
I love Nordstrom, Shopbop, Zara, Madewell, J.Crew, and
Lord & Taylor (I find great deals at L&T). I am a definite bargain
hunter, but quality has become very important to me. I am starting to realize
that splurging on something that you will wear 100 times might be a better way
to go than wasting $20 on something you only wear once.
What fashion or
styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense
of style?
Start with inspiration. Visit fashion blogs (peruse
them on Bloglovin’), look at magazines, visit entertainment websites to check
out celebrity style. Figure out a few people whose style you can’t get enough
of and who have a similar body shape to yours. Start making a list of items
that you would like to add to your wardrobe. Do you love Jessica Alba’s
high-waisted bell bottom/fedora look? Do you own high-waisted bell bottoms? Do
you own a fedora? Keep this fashion wish list in your purse at all times so you
can glance at it when you find yourself shopping.
Is there a
