Fashion & Style: Banke

Introduce yourself!
Hi readers of Culture of Venus. My name is Banke Balogun and I am the author of the fashion blog “With Love, Banke.” With Love, Banke was created in January of 2014. I wanted to showcase my eclectic sense of style while adding witty and in some cases, quirky commentary. Aside from running With Love, Banke I am a first year Masters in Public Health candidate at the University of California, Los Angeles. In my free time, I like to browse through other fashion blogs, watch Korean dramas and listen to music.

How would you describe your sense of style?
Eclectic. I’m all over the place as a result of this, many people have found it very difficult to pinpoint my exact style--it’s constantly changing! On my blog you’ll see me emulate many different styles.

Where do you get your inspiration for each look?
I get my inspiration from many different places. It could be from watching a t.v. show, to seeing an outfit I really like on Instagram or just my personal mood. As of late, I’ve been trying to find within myself more inspirations so I’ve opted out from skimming on a lot of fashion bloggers pages and looking at magazines.

Are there any celebrities/fashion icons whose style you admire?
Rihanna: Amazing sense of style. She could wear a trash bag and still look amazing.
Bebe Zeva: A recognized blogger who I believe should gain more recognition. Not only can this girl write killer commentary, but her style is to die for. She’s never scared to try anything new and she has a lot of confidence.

What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a hurry?
I would say I always throw on a pair of high waisted jeans, a crop top and some converse or my Peter Pilotto for Target slip on sneakers.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
1.    My ASOS platform shoes
2.    My H&M wide brim hat
3.    My American Apparel Silver Disco Pants

If you had the option of replacing all items in your closet with items from a particular designer. Who would that be?
Ted Baker! Whenever I go to that store, I’m like a kid in a candy shop. I love everything in their store from their clothing to their bags.

What are some of your favorite shops or websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
For online shopping it would be ASOS, Urban Outfitters and Topshop. For in-person shopping it’s Forever 21, Zara, H&M, Buffalo Exchange and thrift stores.

What fashion or styling tips would you give to someone who wants to improve their sense of style?
Try something that’s never been done before and be true to yourself. Fashion is about having fun!

Is there a blog/webpage or Youtube channel where we can find you?

DIY Body Butter Recipes for Winter Skin

10:37:00 AM Jem Lawren 0 Comments

Ok, I’ll be honest…I am so not looking forward to the approaching winter months. Just thinking about the cold weather gives me the chills. Don’t get me wrong… It’s really beautiful when it snows and all the trees and bushes are covered in white, but the harshness of this weather can be quite brutal on my lips and skin.
Back in October of 2013 I had written a post about Softer Lips During the Winter, which gave you steps on how to keep your lips  soft during winter months. Also, in April I had written a post listing the 7 Great Body Lotions for Summer, in that post I had mentioned the fact that as the seasons change and so should your skincare.
Now that summer is over and winter is right at your back door… it’s almost that time to put away those light lotions and opt for a heavier, richer, thicker butters or crèmes.  Body butters are one of the best ways to shield your skin from the dry, harsh weather of winter.

So, here are a couple DIY Body Butter Recipes you can make at home and tweak to your liking.

Citrus Mango
3 oz. Shea Butter
3 oz. Mango Butter
1/2 cups Extra Virgin,
1/2 cups Organic Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Grapeseed Oil
10 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil
10 drops of Mango essential oil
The recipe will give you about 20 to 30 oz

Lavender Coco
2 oz unrefined Coco Butter
3 oz Shea Butter
½ cup Olive oil
¼ cup Coconut oil
10 to 15 drops of Lavender essential oil
The recipe will give you about 15 to 25 oz

Plain Shea
2 cups of Organic Shea Butter
1 cup of Organic Coconut oil
½ cup Olive oil
½ cup of Almond oil
You can add an essential oil of your choice for scent

What you need:
- Heat safe glass bowl and metal bowl for mixing
- Electric mixer or whisk
- Pot to create a double boiler
- Storage jar with lid

Steps to mix recipes:
- Add the butters into the glass bowl
- Put water in the pot and place on stove at medium heat
- Place heat safe glass boil containing the butters in the pot with boiling water
- Once the butters have been melted, allow it to slightly cool and then transfer into the  metal bowl (be careful…the mixture should be warm not scorching hot!)
- Add the oils and essential oil
- Blend ingredients for 1 to 2 mins
- Allow the mixture to cool and solidify
- Blend again until you get a creamy texture and then transfer it into the storage container

I hope you enjoy
